EULENSPYGEL — Eulenspygel 2 (1971-1999) Two Version | WV + FLAC (image+.tracks+.cue), lossless

Eulenspygel were one of the first bands in the early 1970s to risk the change from English to German lyrics. Only mainstream pop songs were in German, and people were afraid of becoming associated with that sort of shallow music. But the band succeeded as can be seen from the quality of their first record "Eulenspygel 2", the first record to be published on the Spiegelei label from Stuttgart. The number "2" in the title was due to the fact that the band’s predecessor, Royal Servants, had already released an LP entitled "We" in 1970 featuring the same line-up. As a consequence of the change from English to German lyrics, the band named itself after the German wag Till Eulenspiegel in order to make society and state look into the mirror by posing intelligent and inciting questions. With 32-page colour booklet including German and English lyrics. GOD

EULENSPYGEL — Ausschuß (1972-2000) Two Version | WV + FLAC (image+.tracks+.cue), lossless

Formed in 1971 as the Royal Servants’ successor, Eulenspygel were one of the very first bands to write their songs in German language, with their lyrics constantly analyzing and criticizing the numerous fishy aspects of our ill society. It’s a bit confusing that their first LP was called "Eulenspygel 2" but this is because they counted the one released by the Royal Servants. Their second LP "Ausschuß" was recorded in the Beatles’ Apple Studio in London. In 1994, it was illegally released on CD on the Luxembourg Germanofon label but sloppily presented. The legal release on Garden of Delights features a coloured booklet of 32 pages and seven bonus tracks. The first three of them were broadcast on the German ARD TV channel (Südfunk Stuttgart) in 1972 and have been taken from the station’s master tape. The last four tracks are unreleased demos. GOD

Notas.
English version of "Ausschuss".
Quote from English liner notes: 'Eulenspygel´s English version of "Ausschuss" was intended for release by Intercord in 1972, but never went beyond the status of an 8-track that had been produced for the American market. "Trash", the title of the English version of "Ausschuss", contains partly different mixes, consequently English vocals and was partly recorded with the help of English musicians. The recordings took place from 4.4.-8.4.1972 at the famous Apple Studios in London. The band enlisted the help of a bass player who had just worked in the studio for Ringo Star or Rod Argent, and whose professionalism saved further takes during the recording.'
The English narrator is not credited on the release.

EULENSPYGEL — Staub Auf Deinem Haar (1973-2004) WV (image+.cue), lossless

Eulenspygel from the Swabian mountains were known for their German lyrics, critical texts which denounce the abuses within their society. On January 13th 1973 the trouble-makers had a gig at the radio show “Kleine Nachtmusik” (small serenade) of the WDR. The gig was transmitted live from the Grober Sendesaal. The CD was thus taken from the master tapes of the radio station. In the meantime the band had become smaller, now being five instead of seven. Flute and violin were missing completely, and the keyboards were used only from time to time. Still, with two acoustic guitars the sound of their music became much more folk like. Although this is quite unusual for Eulenspygel, the lyrics didn’t change at all. Their original version as its English translation can be found in the CD’s booklet. Also a lot of pictures, cover repros, discographies, and the band’s history are to be seen. GOD
