Reportedly Dinah Washington's favourite singer, and an influence on vocal stylists like Billy Wright and Joe Williams, ANNIE LAURIE was one of the outstanding R&B/Jump Blues singers of the immediate post-WWII era.
She recorded prolifically in the late 40s and early 50s, for six different labels, enjoying both R&B and crossover Pop success, before suddenly retiring from singing in 1962, to devote her life to the Jehovah's Witnesses.
Her biggest success - and her signature song - was 'Since I Fell For You', in 1947, following which she also registered with 'Cuttin' Out', 'I'll Never Be Free', 'It Hurts To Be In Love' and 'If You're Lonely'.
She also enjoyed regional success on the Cashbox New Orleans 'Hot' Chart with releases like 'Annie's Blues', 'I Ain't Gonna Let You' and 'My Rough And Ready Man'.
This compilation presents the very best of her recordings between 1947-62 and is a must-have for collectors as it includes sides which have never previously appeared on CD, notably her very first release, 'St. Louis Blues'. Jasmine

DIANA DORS — Swinging Dors (1960) Two Version (2012, Norma – NOCD5679) + (2020, Jasmine Records – JASCD 1051 | Mono) FLAC (tracks+.cue), lossless
Diana Dors is known more as an actress and sex symbol than as a singer,
but she did sing on record during her heyday. This 1960 album is a
competent pop-jazz session, with accompaniment from the Wally Stott
Orchestra (Stott perhaps being best known internationally for working in
the '60s with Scott Walker, Dusty Springfield, and Shirley Bassey).
Unlike many records by celebrities known mostly for acting, Swinging
Dors isn't a novelty album, or an embarrassment. It's just a very
straightforward swing jazz-flavored adult pop session, Dors singing much
better, in the conventional sense, than her American counterpart
Marilyn Monroe. At the same time, Monroe, for all her vocal limitations,
projected much more character than Dors does on this record, which is
surprisingly only in its utter ordinariness. Richie Unterberger

JERI SOUTHERN - You Better Go Now + When Your Heart's on Fire (1996) FLAC (image+.cue), lossless
If you were to leaf through all the material written about Jeri Southern in the past five years or so by record reviewers, night club critics, newspaper columnists and others, you would notice a constant recurrence of such words as delicacy, sensitivity, taste, subtlety and restraint. And if you find these qualities admirable, then it's a fine experience you have in store as you listen to these lyrical little milestones in Miss Southern's recording career. On some of them she sounds very close to tears, on others she sounds wise and profound and perhaps just a bit cynical. Sometimes she seems like a wistful little girl, and the next minute she's silken and sultry and seductive. The moods are many and complex, and they are all Jeri Southern's. They are all yours too, to share with her here in this album. Jasmine records
