ANITA HARRIS - Somebody's in my Orchard (1966) lp / Mp3

At the end of the first days recording the musicians clustured into the box to hear the playbacks. As the final chord rang out they stood up and applauded Anita Harris and David Whitaker. That spirit shows through on every track.
With an 8 month starring season at the London Palladium which sent the critics wild, a Royal performance and an avalanche of top television which included her memorable season on ATV's top rated "Braden Beat" , Anita Harris is to the British Female Vocal scene as the Beatles are to the groups. This alnum, full of starling inovations, delights with a vocal artistry which is both unique and richly coloured with imagination, A true original, her style owes vocal allegiance to no other singer.
This is sensational collection of tracks. From the pensive, gossamer "Butterfly with Colored Wings" to the roaring "Oranges and Lemons" (played incidentally by the famed "Freds Buskers"), David Whitaker's brilliant arrangements weave patterns of inovation, and together with Anita's phenomenal singing and unique feeling for lyrics a completely new look is created for "Honeysuckle Rose", "Lullaby of the Leaves!, "Cherry Ripe" and many other nunbers.
Anita uses her remarkable range with delicacy and selection, her tremendous "Taste of Honey" sung incredibly against fiercely intricate cross rhythms, throws new light on the lyrics.
Deserving special mention, guest appearances in the "Inch Worm" underground fantasy by R.A.D.A.'s Trevor Adams and Susan Fourmel of the National Youth Theatre, the sensitive engeneering of Keith Grant and the magnificent playing of the musicians.
By the way, those of you lucky enough to possess a Stereo copy find it astonishingly exercised by "Somebody's in my Orchard". Mike Margolis
