JOE PASS - University of Akron Concert (1987) RM / FLAC (tracks+.cue), lossless

More than a dozen years after he recorded his first set of unaccompanied solos for Pablo, Joe Pass was still at it. This live set finds Pass in prime form, performing an inventive seven-song Duke Ellington medley, a cooking version of "Joy Spring," a couple of ballads, "It's a Wonderful World," an original, and obscurities by Count Basie and Milton Nascimento. This is a fine all-around performance that still sounds impressive today, particularly when one realizes that Joe Pass managed to sound like an orchestra without using the tapping technique of Stanley Jordan. by Scott Yanow
