Muhal Richard Abrams recorded several memorable and successful duet sessions during the 1970s and '80s. Few covered more territory or were as invigorating as the album with Amina Claudine Myers, a capable player on either organ or piano. Myers discarded the organ for this date, as both she and Abrams used Yamaha C3D pianos. While Myers displayed her gospel and blues influences, Abrams' muscular riffs and solos resulted in exciting dialogues and marvelous complementary, contrasting and dueling passages. This was an intense, yet also swinging, enjoyable session, one in which Abrams displayed the mastery of multiple genres that's distinguished his music, and Myers her distinctive mix of secular and spiritual elements.
