NEW ORLEANS: The Living Legends - KID THOMAS & His Algiers Stompers featuring Emile Barnes [1961] OJC / Riverside / FLAC / 1994

New Orleans: The Living Legends is a 1961 album by Kid Thomas & His Algiers Stompers featuring Emile Barnes. Originally released on the Riverside label, this CD was done by Original Jazz Classics/Fantasy Jazz in 1994 with a remastering by Joe Tarantino. This was the first set of recordings Riverside Records did with Kid Thomas.

This is the only entry in Riverside's The Living Legends series (which has been reissued on CD in the OJC series) that is not recommended. Trumpeter Kid Thomas Valentine's playing is very erratic and the ensemble (which includes clarinetist Emile Barnes and trombonist Louis Nelson) is rarely in tune. Their renditions of the basic material ranges from raw to feeble and is a major disappointment.
There are parts that may be "off", but this is anything but a "major disappointment".
1. Big Lunch Blues
2. Some Of These Days
3. When My Dreamboat Comes Home
4. China Boy
5. It's A Long Way To Tipperary
6. Hindustan
7. I Can't Escape From You
8. Bye And Bye
9. Down By The Riverside
10. I Wonder Who's Kissing Her Now
11. Big Milk-Cow Blues
