Il Balletto di Bronzo is an Italian rock hardcore psychedelic and progressive rock band.
Historical group formed in Naples at the end of the 60s, initially with the name of Battitori Selvaggi, and playing in the Italian bases of NATO. The group changed its name to the current one with the stabilization of the formation to four, that realized two beautiful singles in 1969 and 1970 and still recorded some songs in Spanish, left in 1988 in 45 rotations, in 1990 in the album Il re del castello , and the first, Sirio 2222. This is now considered to be one of the rarest of the Italian progressive era, and it is halfway between the psychedelic 1960s pop and the progressive rock of the following years. The long suite Missione Sirio 2222 is one of the best branes, while most of the others are pieces lasting three minutes. Some lovers consider him one of the best in the Italian progressive field. For others, it is a still not very mature work, but surely it is a very important album.
In 1971, Gianni Leone, from the first formation of the group Città Frontale, joined the group, along with bassist Vito Manzari, of the Roman group Quelle Strane Cose Che to create a new Balletto di Bronzo, with a more symphonic sound and dominated by his keyboards.
The second album came out in 1972 by Polydor, called Ys, from the name of a legendary town in Brittany, a magnificent work that gave the group the success it deserved. Inexplicably an English version, already ready, has never been stamped.
The group disbanded in 1973 after the last single La tua casa comoda. Gianni Leone tried his solo career under the name of Leo Nero, while others moved to Sweden and left the Italian music scene.
Gianni Leone reformed the group in the late 1990s with bassist Romolo Amici and drummer Ugo Vantini, both from neo-prog Romano group Divae, whose 1995 album Gianni had played. With this training was recorded live CD Trys, containing old and new songs.
